Meeting WITH THE HOME SECRETARY, JAMES CLEVERLY

Sometimes, lunchtimes can be rather monumental!
Friday lunchtime, our Founder met with the UK Government’s Home Secretary @jamescleverly

We were due to meet when he was Foreign Secretary to discuss the current situation in Italy (Non-Bio Mothers being removed from their children’s births certificates) to ask for the UK to speak publicly on it, then he changed roles to Home Secretary, but still wanted to meet us to discuss the other matters we wanted to raise.

We discussed this & the need for the UK to show support, and the disparities our LGBTQ+ community experience creating their families (Our IVF Equality Campaign being one of them) the urgent need for mandatory LGBTQ+ competency training for health care professionals and a multitude of other areas our community need better equitable care across maternity, and general healthcare.And as he is also their region’s MP also discussed localised issues.

We will be speaking with him again to relay the recommendations we have made previously with Government & so he can take these forward in the House to discuss further. We are grateful that he took time out of his busy schedule to meet with us & are happy to hear that he too feels LGBTQ+ people & their families deserve the right to live free,safe & access equal care.
